Bag of Rice Project #510 -A visit to the Jackie family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Jackie family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Stacie Toombs, and this is the 510th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Jackie family in Effoi village which is domiciled in Akwa Ibom State, the southern part of Nigeria. When we drove into the compound the family was inside, we went to knock and they came out. They gave us a warm reception and we told them our purpose for visiting them. When the family heard us they were happy and jumped up for joy. They asked if we belonged to any political party and we said no, that someone donated it to them. The family was happy and was in shock that someone would donate a bag of rice to them without having any affiliation with them. The family lives in a one-bedroom apartment and they are blessed with 2 children.

The Jackie family makes use of firewood for cooking and that’s the cheapest fuel the family can afford. The family is unable to get cooking gas for cooking because of the price of a gas cylinder. Mr Jackie said he loads sand into a truck and he does that to feed and take care of his children. When we asked him about his wife he told us he was a widower and that he lost his wife 2 years ago. His sister stays with them to take care of the kids.

Mr Jackie was happy someone donated a bag of rice to him and prayed that heaven’s blessing will not cease in the family, God will continue to provide for the family and keep them out of danger. The Jackie family was happy and they prayed that God will continually bless the family. The family continued praying as we left the compound.
