Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Ini family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Tina Fruzen, and this is the 512th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met the Ini family in Effoi village which is domiciled in Akwa Ibom State the southern part of Nigeria. When we got to the family compound, the children were playing outside the compound. The father gave us a warm reception and when we told them what we brought for them, they were happy and didn’t believe their eyes. This beautiful family lives in a mud house. The roof of the house is in a bad shape and it’s on the verge of collapsing. The family is blessed with 4 kids in which two of the kids have dropped out and only two are still in school.
The family cooks with firewood and they do that at the back of their house. They are unable to afford the cheapest form of cooking which is cooking gas. Mr. Ini said he drives a motorcycle to fend for the family and the wife Mrs. Mercy is unemployed but the husband said she told him she would love to learn a skill which is hairdressing but they have not been able to afford the money for the training.
The family was excited and they thanked the donor for giving them a bag of rice which is equivalent to the minimum wage in the country. They prayed for the donor and said God will bless the donor and everything the donor does will be successful. When we left the family waved and smiled as we left.
