Bag of Rice Project #513 -A visit to the Prince family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Prince family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to TERRY SIMMONS, and this is the 513th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Prince family in Effoi village in Akwa Ibom State, the southern part of Nigeria. When we got to the family, they were seated in front of their house, they gave us a warm reception, and when we told them our reason for visiting them they were happy and elated. They didn’t believe their eyes and shouted for joy. The family lives in a one-bedroom apartment and it’s built with mud which is the ancient method of building a house in Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. The family is blessed with 7 beautiful kids.

The family cooks with firewood which is the cheapest fuel they can afford, they are unable to afford cooking gas despite the health challenge posed by using firewood to cook. Mrs. Glory prince is a farmer and she is a farmer and uses that to feed the family since she’s a widow, she lost her husband 3 years ago. They lack basic amenities in the house, they don’t have access to good water and they defecate in open spaces.

The family was happy and the children smiled. They told us it’s been a long time since they ate rice. They thanked the donor and prayed that God will bless them and God will help them whenever they are in need. The family was happy and they smiled as we left.
