Bag of Rice Project #519 -A visit to the Samuel family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Samuel family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to TERRY SIMMONS, and this is the 519th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

The family was recommended to us by a friend. When we got to the compound we were unable to find the parents of the children and the children went to get their mother from one of her friend’s house. When she came we told her our mission and she was happy. The Samuel family resides in Ekpene Obo a village in the Southern part of Nigeria. The family lives in a mud house which is not suitable for living and is in bad condition. They don’t have access to basic amenities like light and water. The family is blessed with 3 kids. We were told the children are out of school due to a lack of money.

The Samuel family cooks at the back of their house and they make use of firewood which is the cheapest fuel they can afford. The use of firewood for cooking is harmful to the health if they are inhaling smoke inside their body, which has an adverse effect on the body system. When we got to the family, the father was not around so we asked and the wife said the father of his children died one year ago that she is the one fending for the children and she is a farmer she does that to feed the family.

The family was happy and they prayed for the donor. They said anything the donor does will be successful and God will continually bless them and keep the family.  The family was excited and they waved at us as we left.
