Bag of Rice Project #522 -A visit to the Ime family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Ime family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to The Thayn Family, and this is the 522nd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

The Ime family resides in Ekpene Obo a village domiciled in the Southern part of Nigeria. When we got to the compound the parents of the children were not around so they went to call their mother from her shop. When the mother came and we told her what brought us to her family the family was happy. They live in a one-room apartment and the house is built with mud, which is an ancient type of building. The house is not in good shape and the roof leaks whenever rain falls. The family is blessed with 6 kids. They were happy someone donated a bag of rice for them.

The Ime family cooks at the back of their house, and they make use of firewood for cooking, this is the cheapest means of cooking they can afford, and considering the harmful effect of using firewood to cook, they are left with no choice but to make use of it because they are unable to afford a cooking gas. The father of the children was not in when we visited but they told us he is unemployed, and the wife sells provisions to take care of the family.

The family was happy and they prayed for the donor they said God’s blessing will continue following the donor and God will bless the works of their hand. The family were happy and they danced and prayed as we left.
