Bag of Rice Project #529 -A visit to the Ezekiel family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Ezekiel family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Dionna Hunger Plywacz Reeg Plumbing, this is the 529th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Ezekiel family in Ikot Ibritam, a village in Akwa Ibom State, which is situated in the southern part of Nigeria. The family was sitting in front of their house when we got there. They were shocked when they saw us drive into their compound. They welcomed us to their compound, and we told them why we came to their compound and said it was a prank. They never believed someone could donate a full bag of rice to them. The Ezekiel family is blessed with three kids, and they live in a one-bedroom apartment that is a mud house that is poorly constructed, They also lack basic amenities of life like electricity, good water, and a better cooking space.

The cheapest fuel available to the Ezekiel family is firewood, which is what they use for cooking. Due to the high cost of a gas cylinder, the family cannot afford cooking gas. Mrs. Ezekiel is a widow and a hairdresser, and she does this to fend for her three kids.

Mrs. Ezekiel was grateful for the bag of rice that was given to him and prayed that the family would continue to receive the blessings of heaven, that God would continue to provide for them, and that he would keep them safe. The Ezekiel family was joyful and hoped for further blessings from God. She was still not convinced and asked if the bag of rice belonged to her alone, and we told her YES. We exited the compound while the family kept praying.
