Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Akpan family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Maria Hadar, Tiffany Reeder, Cameron Waqa this is the 54th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
This family was recommended to us by their local leader. The Akpan family is wonderful family. They have 3 children and live in a rented one room apartment and share other utilities in the compound with other tenants. And the challenges of their situation is belied by the huge smiles and welcome we were shown.
The family cook outside in the open as their house arrangement does not offer them an exclusive place to cook in as they cook in the open during dry season and inside the house during the rainy season and yes Nigeria has two main seasons. Mr Akpan is a trained electrician and has found jobs had to come by. His wife Mrs Dorothy is a stay at home mom and takes care of the kids. This family as was relayed to me has gone through a lot of challenges and has been to the point of begging for food from neighbors and even the church they worship.
This family was both humble and grateful for the bag of Rice and we could see how much it will change the family as Mr Akpan told us that they will eat from the rice that same evening. I was so happy for them even as they expressed their joy and gratitude. We are grateful to those who donated and know that God will definitely bless and replenish them.
