Bag of Rice Project #583 -A visit to the Willie family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Willie family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to The Marlow Family, and this is the 583rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Willie family in Uyo. When we got to the compound they were outside, and as we drove in they were shocked. Mrs. Willie gave us a receptive welcome and we told her our reason for visiting her. She was happy and danced, she asked which of the political parties sent us and we told her we were not sent by any political party, she was shocked someone she did not know would just donate a bag of rice without asking for anything in return. She was so happy, she was shocked and told us that the new minimum wage cannot buy a bag of rice because of how bad the economy is. Mrs. Willie lives in a one-room apartment and the bathroom of the house is at the front of the house, so she wakes up early to take her bath. Mrs. Williie is blessed with a child.

Mrs Willie has a kitchen where she cooks her food and she uses a small cooking gas to do that. Mrs Willie is a tailor; she does that to fend for the family; she told us she would like to rent her own shop and also be able to afford better machines she could use in sewing.

As she prayed for the donor and expressed gratitude to God, she was overjoyed . She said that the donor’s labours will be rewarded by God and that everything he touches will prosper. when we left, they were happy and smiling.
