Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Aniema family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Melissa Rae, this is the 588th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met the Aniema family in Ikono. When we went to the compound, we did not see anyone outside. We had to knock on their door and they came out. Mrs. Aniema gave us a receptive welcome and she asked us what brought us to her compound. We told her someone donated a bag of rice to her and she was like, We are joking that the joke is too expensive. How can someone donate a full bag of rice to her when the minimum wage of the country can’t even get a bag of rice? She was shocked when we brought out the bag of rice and said it was her own. She did not know what to say and was shocked someone she did not know at all would donate a full bag of rice to her without asking for anything in return. She was so happy. Mrs. Aniema lives in a one-room apartment and she is blessed with 3 kids, one of whom is a twin. We asked her about the husband and she said the husband ran away since she gave birth, that she has been the one fending for the children
The Aniema family cooks with cooking gas; there is a general kitchen she shares with her neighbor and she cooks there. Mrs. Aniema is a student and does not have a job yet. She gets help from her family to feed the children because she is unemployed. She wishes she could start a side job to help her pay most of her bills and relieve her siblings a little.
Mrs. Aniema was so happy that someone could donate a bag of rice to her without asking for anything in return; she was so happy and prayed that God will continue to bless the donor and provide for them at all times. She continued praying for us as we drove away.
