Bag of Rice Project #591 -A visit to the Blackson family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Blackson family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to an anonymous donor , and this is the 591st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Blackson family in Ikono. When we got to the compound, we saw them seated outside; we greeted them and they reciprocated. Mrs. Blackson asked us our purpose for visiting them and we told her we had a bag of rice for her; she was so happy. She was shocked someone she does not know from Adam would donate a full bag of rice to her without asking for anything in return, considering how hard the economy is. She was so happy and she informed her children about it and they were happy; they told their mother that they now have something to eat. Mrs. Blackson lives in a one-room apartment that is still uncompleted, and the house lacks the basic amenities; they do not have electricity, good water, and a proper toilet to defecate. Mrs. Blackson is blessed with 3 kids and they are all in school, but it has been hard because of how the economy is.

Mrs. Blackson cooks at the back of their house; they make use of firewood to cook because that is the cheapest fuel they can afford to cook. They are unable to get cooking gas because they can’t afford it. They cook with firewood, which is harmful to health. Mrs. Blackson is a concrete worker. She does this to feed the family.

Mrs. Blackson was so happy, and she prayed that God would protect, guide, enrich, and bless the donor. She was so happy and as we drove past them, they continued praying for the donor.
