Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Ayanime family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Mckenna Fusselman, and this is the 601st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

The Ayanime family was recommended to us by a friend, when we got to their compound in Mbiaso village we found the husband and wife outside with their children, we exchanged pleasantries and they offered us sit and we declined politely. We told them what brought us to their compound, they were both shocked we were giving them a bag of rice without asking for anything in return, they did not believe their eyes. We told them someone donated a bag of rice to them, they did not believe their eyes, how can someone they do not know give them a bag of rice without asking for anything in return. They started praying for the donor and happy God has sent help to them. The Ayanime family stays in a one room apartment, the house is a mud house and they are unable to build a house with blocks because they cannot afford it, the house on the verge of collapsing. Mr. Ayanime says he has been trying to maintain the house by repairing where it is bad. The house lacks basic amenities, they do not have a bathroom, they take their bath at the backyard of their house, they also defecate openly and do not have a proper water system. The family is blessed with 3 beautiful and handsome kids. The two are still in school, the third born is not up to 6 months yet.

The Ayanime family do not have a proper kitchen, they make use of firewood as their source of fuel, they are unable to afford cooking gas because of how expensive it is. The use of firewood to cook is harmful to the health and can cause terminal illness but they are left with no choice to use firewood to cook because they do not buy the wood, they fetch them in the forest because it costs them nothing but it is harmful to their health. Mr. and Mrs Ayanime cooks palmfruit. They use this in taking care of the family.
The Ayanime family was so excited and they prayed that the way the donor remembered them God will remember them when they call on him, they would be blessed in whatever they do and God will bless the work of their hands. As we were leaving the continued praying Mr. Ayanime told his wife to cook the rice because they have not had any food this morning and this a good sign that God has remembered them today.
