Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The following story is about the Nsikan family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Cathryn Remily, and this is the 602nd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the family of Nsikan in Mbiaso village. The family was recommended to us by a friend. When we got there we met the family outside seated, they were surprised to see us. They stood up and gave us a receptive welcome, they said they were not expecting any visitors and were shocked to see us. We told them we have something for them and they asked us what was it, we told them we have a bag of rice for them, they were shocked and asked if it was given to them by a politician, we said we were not sent by a politician that someone donated the bag of rice to them, they were shocked someone they did not know from Adam donated a bag of rice to them. They started praying for the donor. The Nsikan family lives in a one room apartment, the house is made of mud and on the verge of collapsing, they told us they are trying to repair the damaged part in the house. The house lacks basic amenities, they do not have good water, they fetch water from the stream which is not good for drinking, they do not have a bathroom, they bathe outside their house, they do not have electricity since they have been living there. The family is blessed with 7 kids and when we visited them, most of the children were not around.
The Nsikan family cooks with firewood, they are unable to afford a cooking gas, considering the effect of using firewood in cooking which may lead to terminal illness because of the smoke inhaled the Nsikan family are left with no choice than to cook with firewood because it is the cheapest they can afford, they just go to the forest to fetch firewood. The Nsikan family are unable to get cooking gas because of how expensive it is. Mr. and Mrs Nsikan are both farmers and they do this to fend for the family.
The family prayed for the donor and said God will protect them from evil and provide for them. They were so happy and continued praying for the donor and told us to tell them they are grateful.
