Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Benson family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Lacey Dolan, and this is the 604th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met the Benson family in Mbiaso village. The family was recommended to us by a friend. When we got to the compound we did not meet anyone outside so we had to knock on their door. When they came out, they gave us a receptive welcome and were shocked to see you. They told us we are not from their village and what brought us to their compound, we told them we have a bag of rice for them that we were recommended by a friend to visit the family. When they heard we had a bag of rice for them, they were shocked and asked us which of the politicians sent us. We said we were not sent by any politician that the bag of rice was donated to them by someone, they did not believe what they were hearing. They did not believe someone that did not know them would donate a bag of rice to them without asking for something in return. The Benson family stays in a one room apartment, according to what we were told the house was a story building and it collapsed and they are left with only one part of the building which is only a room and they do not have the money to renovate the building because they even find it hard to feed, where would they get the money to renovate the dilapidated structure. The family is blessed with 5 kids and at the moment they are all out of school because there is no money to pay for the fees of the children. The house lacks basic amenities, the room of the house is in bad condition and whenever it rains they will have to stand because of the leaking of the roof. They go to the stream to fetch water and drinking water gotten from the stream is not healthy. They do not have electricity and they have been living in the dark for years.
The Benson family do not have a proper kitchen, they do the cooking outside their house, they make use of firewood for cooking, this is what they could afford. Cooking with firewood is harmful to the health because of the harm it causes to the health, cooking with firewood damages the lungs and other vital organs in the body. The family is unable to afford cooking gas because of how expensive it is. When we visited the family the husband was not around, Mrs. Benson told us the husband went to the farm, they are both farmers and they do this to fend for the family.
They were ecstatic, saying that God would remember them as they remembered her and that the donor would continue to receive blessings from the Lord. She was grinning and dancing with delight as we went, and she kept praying.
