Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Timothy family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to TERRY SIMMONS, and this is the 607th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met the Timothy family in Mbiaso village. When we got to the compound we saw the family seated outside. We approached them and they gave us a receptive welcome. They offered us seats. The family asked us what brought us to their compound, that these are new faces and they have not seen us in the community before. We told them we are not from the community, we told them we have something for them. They were surprised, they are just meeting us and we have something for them now. She asked us what we had for her and we told her a bag of rice, she did not believe what she was hearing because a bag of rice is expensive and only politicians give it to someone to get something back in return. She asked us which political party we belonged to and we told her we were not sent by any political party, that someone donated it to them. She did not believe what she was being told, how can someone who is not related to me just give me a bag of rice without asking for something in return? She was very happy and she prayed for the donor. The Timothy family live in a one bedroom apartment, the house is built with mud, this type of house is not good for people to live in. They lack basic amenities, they do not have good water, electricity and a proper toilet, they still practice open defecation. The family is blessed with 5 kids.
The Family cooks with firewood considering the harm firewood causes to the health, they are left with no choice than to use firewood for cooking. They are unable to get cooking gas because of how expensive it is and also money to fill the gas when it finishes. When we visited the family Mr. Timothy was not in, we were told he went out. The wife Mrs. Gift Timothy told us the husband is a fisherman and she is a farmer and they use this to fend for the family.
The Timothy family was ecstatic and said that God would remember them when they called on him, that they would be blessed in everything they did, and that God would bless their labor. Mrs. Timothy instructed the children to prepare the rice as we were leaving the ongoing prayer because they hadn’t eaten anything this morning, which is a positive indication that God had thought of them today.
