Bag of Rice Project #609 -A visit to the Nse family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Nse family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to TERRY SIMMONS, and this is the 609th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Nse family in Mbiaso Village. The Nse family was recommended to us by a friend. When we got to the family the family was sitting in front of their house. We greeted them and they asked us who we were looking for. We told her we came looking for her family, and she gave us a seat. She asked us what her family had done for us to look for them. We told her we have a bag of rice for her family. She was excited and she said in their local dialect “ABASI ADI NSE” meaning God has visited me. She asked us who sent us if it was politicians, we told her someone donated to her that we were not sent by politicians. She was happy and prayed for the donor. The Nse family live in a one room apartment, the house is made of mud. These types of houses are not good for someone to live in but the family has no other option than to stay in the house. The house lacks basic amenities. They do not have electricity, the roof of the house is leaking and they still practice open defecation. The family is blessed with 7 children.

The Nse makes use of firewood to cook and they go to the forest to fetch this firewood. The family is unable to get a proper cooking gas, they are left with no choice than to use firewood because of their inability to afford cooking gas. Using firewood to cook is harmful to health and destroys vital organs in the body. Mrs. Nse sells fish in the local market in the community and the husband is a farmer he was not in when we visited.

Mrs. Nse was thrilled and delighted to get the bag of rice from the donor. She told us that whenever she prayed to God, she would pray that God should bless the giver and meet their needs. As we drove away, she prayed for us. She was grateful that God had come to them and they are happy he remembers them.
