Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Edem family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Cat Neiheisel – In honor of all our employees at Neiheisel Steel Corporation. This is the 61st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this family through a church leader. They live in a one bedroom mud house, and use somewhere at the back of their house as a kitchen. The Edems have 3 kids with one more on the way. We could not find their house and Mrs Edem walked a far distance to guide us to their place. We did not meet Mr Edem at home .
This wonderful family warmed our heart when we met them. They had such wonderful smiles and were a delight to speak to especial the kids who greeted us with a smile and a handshake as we arrived. Mr Edem is unemployed and has been doing odd jobs wherever he can find so that he can take care of his family. Mrs Edem is a seamstress but has since not been working. And their last kid Angela wanted her own personal photo and we had to oblige her, she was so much fun to meet and talk to.
This family had needed this help and were so grateful when we came. Mrs Edem kept thanking us over and over again. This humble family touched my heart, they live in a mud house in the middle of the city but their faith is stronger than a lot of families We felt so happy meeting Angela and I believe that our visit has lifted their spirits a little bit and the bag of Rice will help feed them and take a little of their load of worries away.
