Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Ekpo family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Bill/Debbie Kempton this is the 71st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this family through their church leader who recommended them. They live in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state. The Ekpos have 3 kids and this family was such a delight for us to visit. Thy live in a one room apartment and share other facilities with other tenants in their compound. We only met Mrs Ekpo at home as her husband was not around.
They have a corner of the house set as a kitchen. Mr Ekpo works a security guard at a local factory and Mrs Ekpo is a teacher teaches kids at a local school. This family has been struggling to make ends meet and have not had too many successes doing that. They have 3 wonderful kids who we were so glad to meet. The kids were well spoken and spoke to us very nicely.
Even though we did not meet Mr Ekpo, we spoke to Mrs Stella Ekpo and we told her why we visited and what we brought for them. She was very grateful for the gift and told us that their family needed it.She was also grateful for those who donated for them to receive the bag of Rice. Her kids were a bright spot in our day and made us extra happy for choosing this family. We left this family knowing that we had made the right choice in choosing this family.
