Bag of Rice Project #73 -A visit to the Anietie family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Anietie family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Jennifer May this is the 73rd bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

Mr Anietie was our guide for most of our visits and while we were on our way to another family, I spoke to him about his life and he told me about his situation. He has two kids and and just recently buried his wife who died after a long illness. When I asked where his children were, he said they were at his grandparents because he lost his job and could no longer feed them. I was shocked! Because he has guided us to so many house in the village we visited and if I had no spoken to him I would no have found out that he was even as poor as the people he was guiding us to.

I asked him to take us to his house and when we got there, I found out that he is living in a one room house that had a zinc door. Besides the house was where he prepared his meals using firewood. He rides a bike and uses it for transportation as people in this area do but earlier in the week he had an accident and had bruises in his head and the back of his arm.

After hearing his story, we decided to give him a bag of Rice. HE has been through a lot and because he did not have food to feed his kids, they were at their grandparents instead of with him. He was so overjoyed when he saw that we wanted to give him a bag of Rice. It made him tearful and he said at least now his kids can come back and he can continue to see how he can take care of them. I believe one of his kids is the same age as my younger brother was when we lost our mom and I know the struggles my dad faced when he was now the sole person taking care of us. I felt so happy within me and I know this gift will mean so much to this man and his family and I am very sure that the family that donated will continue to receive blessings from God for the help they have given.
