Bag of Rice Project #75 -A visit to the Ikpe family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Ikpe family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Stephanie Cowan this is the 75th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

This special family was recommended to us by their church leader. The Ikpe family are a wonderful family and was a delight for us to visit. Mr Ikpe has four daughters and they live in a 2 room apartment. Mr Ikpe is widower and he lost his wife last year in August. It has been hard for him to take care of his children as he is often away from the house.

Mr Ikpe is unemployed and takes regular trips to his hometown to look for jobs to do and when he gets money, he then comes back. His two eldest daughters are working to help the family. The eldest daughter assists in selling at a grocery store and the second daughter braids hair at home. Both of them earn money and use it to take care of their younger sisters. Its been tough for this family and its admirable how they have been surviving since.

We met with this family after church on a Sunday, because that was the only time Mr Ikpe is sure to be at home. He welcomed us very well and we spoke for a long time about his family and his personal history. He is filled with so much history about his times. When we told him about why we came and what we brought for his family, he was visibly happy and was visibly relieved for us to visit and help out his family. I know that this bag of Rice will so beneficial to his kids and that they will need it for the times when their father is not around. I felt that this family will be in a better place than they were before we came.
