Bag of Rice Project #80 -A visit to the Eme family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Eme family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Connie Peach this is the 80th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

This special family was recommended to us by their church leader. The Eme family was a wonderful family to visit. Mrs Eme lost her husband last year and has been struggling to take care of her two kids. They lost their home and Mrs Eme brought the kids back to stay with her mother. They live in a 2 bedroom apartment in the outskirts of the city.

When Mrs Eme’s husband died, she was left with two kids to raise and nothing left to do. She now lives with her mother after she was evicted from the house where she was staying before. Her mom sells smoked fish and she helps her in the preparation. We enjoyed meeting her and her beautiful kids Nora and Miracle. They were so polite and nice to us and we decided to take a picture of them.

When their church leader spoke to me about this family and it hit me how unprepared a death of the breadwinner can leave a family hopeless. This family was doing a little bit okay but this death has hurt the family and their fish business has not been going well. When we met this family to give them the bag of Rice, Mrs Eme did not believe me at first, then she was happy and grateful for the gift and thanked those who donated the bag of Rice for them. This family will need a lot of adjustment in the coming months and this gesture of kindness from Connie Peach will go a lot to helping this family.
