Bag of Rice Project #86 -A visit to the Foray family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Foray family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Angela Read, Lisa Anderson, Stacie Mangold this is the 86th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

This wonderful family was recommended to us by their church leader. The Forays live in Uyo, Nigeria. They live in a one bedroom apartment and share toilet facilities with other neighbors. The Forays have two wonderful kids and were recommended by multiple people to us. We have tried in the past to locate this family but nobody knew where they stayed and we had to find another family. The Forays are a strong family that are going through a lot but has still managed to come out strong.

The Forays cook in the open during dry season and use firewood to save costs and money and in the rainy season they switch to kerosene and take it inside as they don’t have a shed or room to cook in. We did not meet Mr Foray, he went to a small hotel where he works as one of the cooks. Mr Foray is from Liberia and left his country to look for a better life in Nigeria and has been here ever since. Life has not been easy for him in Nigeria as he has found it extra difficult to find work to take care of his family.

This wonderful family was a delight to meet.We have heard so much about them before we met them. We met their lovely daughters Emily and Joan. Emily was a bit sick so she was not a hundred percent but she still listened to her mom and came out to take pictures. When we told them why we came and what we brought for them, Mrs Foray was extremely delighted and immediately called her husband on the phone to give him the good news. And we could hear the surprised and later happiness from her husbands voice over the phone. This family really needed this help and they were grateful for it and appreciated it so much. We know it will mean a lot to them and will want to thank those who donated for this wonderful gift to this wonderful family.
