Bag of Rice Project #98 -A visit the Isonguyo family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Isonguyo family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Lynn Palmer this is the 98th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this family in the same compound as the Jumbos and after speaking to them we decided to introduce ourselves to them. The Isonguyo family are a wonderful family that live in Uyo, Nigeria. They live in a rented one bedroom house and share utilities with their neighbors. The Isonguyos have 2 kids and one just arrived about 3 months ago. I loved this family a lot and talking to Mr Anietie made us love them more.

We only met Mr Anietie at home, he sells second hand clothes at a local market every evening so it was his turn to take care of the kids when we came to visit with them in the morning. His wife Mrs Edima sells food and cooks them early in the morning and then carries it in a handcart around until she sells them all. Even though she had just given birth a little over 3 months ago, she was still committed to keeping her own side of helping out her family. Their kitchen helps me understand that their business is still very small as the pot they cook with is not that big.

We did not know about this family when we left on our journey but we were glad to have met them. The Isonguyo had me when I saw Mr Anietie with his new baby and when I spoke to him and he told me his wife went out to sell food. I was so touched by this and when we told them about who we were and why we came to them, he was very happy and grateful for the Rice. It will serve dual needs for them, feeding them and also being used for the food business so they can have income. They were grateful to those who donated the Rice to them and looking at this family and where they lived I knew that this gift will help them a lot. We left knowing that this family will be better than before we came.
