You will need to also have some model rocket engines to launch the rockets. These two packs of engines below are needed for the two different size rockets.
These are for the smaller rocket, the Crossfire:
Estes A8-3 Engine Pack (3-Each)
- Includes 3 – A8-3 Engines, 3 – Starters, 4 – Starter Plugs
- This engine is a standard engine designed for flights in rockets weighing less than 3 ounces, including the engine
- Single stage engine
This pack of model rocket engines are for the larger model rocket above, the Amazon:
These are also a better price on the engines then what I can find at local hobby stores!
Estes B4-4 Engine Pack (3-Each)
- Includes 3 – B4-4 Engines, 3 – Starters, 4 – Starter Plugs
- This engine is a standard engine designed for flights in rockets weighing less than 3.5 ounces, including the engine
- Single stage engine
You will need the wadding when you have repeated launches. You place it in between the rolled up parachute and the engine at the bottom. It keeps the sparks and hot gasses from melting (or at least makes it less able to) the parachute. And you only need one or two sheets in between the engine and the parachute.
Model Rocket Parachute Wadding
- Rocket Accessory
- Contains 75 Sheets
- Enough for 18-25 flights
- Flame resistant
- Required for most rockets
You will also need a couple batteries to put into the launch control panel (the yellow rectangle), where the button is to launch the rocket. Usually it requires 4 AA batteries, but controllers require different sizes.
To prepare the model rocket engine. You place the wire trigger (V shaped wire with a paper spacer) deep into the bottom of the engine. Then firmly press in the plastic trigger plug or “starter plug” that holds in the wire trigger. Then take the engine and push the top end into the bottom of the rocket. Push it in until the metal clip snaps over the bottom of the engine. The metal clip holds the engine in place so it won’t slide out of the engine.
Then slide the rocket’s launch pad rings, plastic hoops on the side of the rocket over the long launch pad pole.
Then with the launch area clear (hot sparks and gasses do spray out sideways after spraying off the launch pad base), attach the two alligator clips from the control box to the trigger wire on the bottom of the engine. It doesn’t matter which one goes on which side. Carefully back away from the launch pad and with the control box in one hand with the button facing up, place the know with the metal pin into the hole above the button.
Countdown for your launch, firmly press the pin into the hole at the same time as you press the trigger button – Off it Goes!
Now the fun is chasing it down.
