Thanks to The Thrifty. Nifty. Craft. Mom for passing along this thrifty tip on to turn a package of plan dollar store cookies into a special treat. After reading her post… I thought “why didn’t I think of that?”  Hope you enjoy it!  If you would like to be a featured guest post on Look What I Made , watch for our weekly post each Tuesday called A Thrifty online craft fair, link up and you may be selected for our weekly feature post.

I was at dollar tree Saturday buying valentine’s balloons for my daughter’s nursery class, I began to browse while they blew up the balloons and I found some fudge covered graham cookies and I grabbed them for my son, he loves him some fudge covered grahams and I usuallly buy them at this one place 3for $1.25 so getting 16 for $1 was a steal. I decided to buy 4packages. I took my fudge covered grahams and balloons home. After the kids had gone to sleep, I started to make the cupcakes that I would bring to church for them to share with their classes. While the cupcakes baked I gathered all the supplies in a basket that I would need to take to church the next morning. My plan was to ice the cupcakes at church so when I went to grab the sprinkles to put in the basket I had one of those AHA! moments. I immediately pulled one of those graham cookies out of the pantry and soon that plain cookie was transformed into an amazing valentine treat. I took a bite to make sure it tasted alright [I was afraid I had messed up the flavor of the chocolate] but to my surprise it was delicious. So here is my quick tutorial/recipe for a super fast v-day treat your family will love, great for FHE or any other occassion.

1.gather ingredients: fudge graham cookies [from dollar tree] and sprinkles

2. Tightly cover your microwave? plate with plastic wrap.
3. Place as many cookies as will fit leaving a small gap in between so they will not touch each other.
4. Microwave the cookies for about 30-45 seconds. Do not microwave more then 45 seconds, remember you only want to warm the chocolate enough to make the sprinkles stick.
5. Quickly sprinkle while chocolate is slightly melted.
6. Pop in the freezer for 5 minutes.
7. Place on a cute plate or cake stand and add a cupcake topper [like above] to make presentable.
8. Enjoy your semi-homemade easy treats
If you’re going to be transporting these anywhere I suggest you let them stand for a few minutes after taking them out fo the freezer to let them “sweat” a little before covering with plastic, plate and all.
That is exactly what I did and the plastic did not stick at all.
And if your friends ask; yes, you made them. You’re secret’s safe with me.
