Thanks to Cathy for this thrifty tip,
I was at the Albertsons on Ustick and 5-mile today and saw that they had a big bin of Bartlett pears in the produce section that were marked 3 lb. for $1! This is a great price! I paid $.40 a lb. for my pears at the fruit stand a couple of weeks ago when I canned pears. I called around and even driving out to the U-pick orchard was going to cost about $.30 per pound, plus the extra gas to drive there. So this is a very good price without having to spend the gas to drive to the orchard. Bartlett make great pears for canning. My family loves canned pears all year round. I don’t know if any other stores have this price or for how long it will last.
