Question: I printed out a bunch of coupons to use with the Albertsons General Mills promotion and when I was looking at them, I noticed that almost all of the coupons I printed said “Do not double” on them. Then, when I started looking through my coupon binder to see what coupons I had that I wanted to double, I noticed that the majority of the coupons I printed in the past couple of weeks now say “Do not double”. Have you noticed this happening? Will Albertsons abide by that? I was pretty sad because the majority of the coupons that I use are ones that I printed from the internet.
Answer: This question is one of those Grey areas of couponing. It tends to be different at each store you go to, I can tell you what I have found and hope it helps. Many internet and blinkie coupons will read do not double across the top. When I called and asked the customer serivce about this they told me it was referring to do not re-print or scan the coupon twice when redeming the coupon. Which did not make sence to me being that you are not allowed to copy ANY coupon or scan it twice at the register. SO why was this only printed on some not all? I have asked a few different store manager about the wording, I have gotten 2 very different answers.
One way to look at it is, a twice the value coupon is an instore coupon. The store is really give you a coupon and allowing you to make your own sale price up to the value of $1.00. The store is taking a loss on this item they will NOT get reimbursed it is just a loss for them. They will however get paid for the the manufacturer coupon they are matching. But the manufacturer does that make the stores price….that is up to the store. They do not print “this item can not be sold for less than $2.00.” They leave pricing up to the store. SO some stores are more than happy to let you use your twice the value coupon on any item with a coupon even it is says do not double…..because they feel they have the right to set their sale prices.
But other stores are VERY firm that they will not allow you to use the twice the value coupon if the coupon says do not double. They have the right to make that choice, so please do not argue with them. Just find out what your locals store view is on this and follow their rules. Like I said in the beginning this a kind of a grey area….there are strong views on both sides . I hope this helps?
