Readers Recycling Tips

One I wanted to thank you for your guidance in building my food storage. Since I was laid off in April and started reading your site I have built my food storage so much that my darling hubby is going to build me more shelves and my pantry has outgrown the room I use and we are converting another small unused space. Like real thrifty people we are using recycled wood to do this so the only cost is nails, screws and the cost of gas to get the wood.

Now on to another idea I found. All those newspapers do build up. I found several ideas online to use them in between rows in a garden and around the plants to keep weed growth down. The idea I really like and I think I will try to get hubby to use is to use newspapers and straw. This helps by retaining the water then at the end of the season you can rototiller it into your garden as it is all biodegradable. There are some warnings to not use the colored pages and I think the glossy pages would also not be a good idea. I figure it is worth a try and anything that cuts down on weeding is good by me.

Thanks Teri for those great ideas on what to do with all of our extra papers! It may seem strange but paper also is a cheap and Thrifty way to insulate buildings. If you have a shed or garage that might not have sheet rock, then you can line the walls with newspaper. Back in the early part of last century, most homes were lined with paper. Its cost effective, and works great!
