Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats
If you love chocolate, Rice Krispie treats and happiness you are going to love these Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats. The salted caramel and chocolate combination is a classic, paired with the classic flavors of a Rice Krispie treat makes for a “grown up” Rice Krispie treat.
Before I share the recipe, I have to know… do you say it carmel or care-a-mel? I think this must be a regional thing that they are said differently. Kind of like creek and crik. Anyway, I let my curiosity get in the way there. On to the recipe for Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats.
You will need:
3 tablespoons of butter + 1 tablespoon for the topping
4 cups of mini marshmallows
6 cups of Rice Krispies
10 oz bag of dark chocolate chips
½ bag of caramel squares
coarse salt
Directions:
Line a 9×13 inch pan with parchment paper, or spray well with cooking spray and set aside.
In a large sauce pan, melt 3 tablespoons of butter. Once melted, add your 4 cups of mini marshmallows. Stir constantly until they melt completely. Remove the pan from heat and stir in the Rice Krispies. Press the mixture into your prepared 9×13 pan. Allows to cool (should take 30 minutes- 1 hour)
For topping:
Once your bars are cooled, start the chocolate topping.
Melt 1 tbsp. of butter and chocolate in a microwave safe bowl in the microwave. Place in microwave for 30 seconds, stir. and then use 10-15 second increments stirring in between to be sure not to burn the chocolate.
Pour melted chocolate over top of Rice Krispie treats and sprinkle with coarse salt.
Let harden.
Melt caramels in a microwave safe bowl, using the same method you did for the chocolate to prevent burning. Using a spoon, drizzle the caramel over the top of the chocolate, being sure to get the whole pan drizzled. Let cool and cut into bars.
