Sam needs A Thrifty Mom readers help

In January of 2008, Sam got the flu. He had just turned 8 years old. We kept calling the doctor and they told us to be patient…that he would get over it. After 3 months he was fading away. He wouldn’t play, wouldn’t eat and we knew there was something wrong. We finally got to see the pediatric GI doctor and she immediately sent us to the hospital and scheduled tests and procedures. A week later, in mid-April, Sam was diagnosed with Inflammatory Bowel Disease and finally in June was positively diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease after visiting the University of Utah Children’s Hospital. While we are still heartbroken and trying every day to work with the medicines to make him feel better, our hope is that because he is only now 10 years old, that by the time he is grown up a cure will be discovered for his disease and he will get to live a normal life…free of drugs and tests and feeling sick. Please help us raise money to find a cure for Crohn’s disease.

Sam is the Honored Hero this year for the Boise Walk as he was the top individual fundraiser for last year’s walk.  He was able to raise over $1000 last year and Sam wants to thank all of you who graciously donated or participated.  As an Honored Hero, Sam gave a speech at the kick-off event, he was on the radio promoting the walk and he get’s to kick-off the walk and lead all walk participants.

From Sam:

I would like for you to help me raise money for the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation so they can help me find a cure. I have Crohn’s Disease and right now I have to take 8 big pills a day. Some of the pills are really big and very hard to swallow. I also have to get my blood drawn almost every month and it hurts and I don’t like to go. It is kind of frustrating to be a kid and be sick. It’s hard to hide it from people when I don’t feel good. I have a really nice doctor and he helps me but I want to find a cure for Crohn’s Disease.

This year for the Boise Take Steps Walk I am the Honored Hero. I have been on the radio and I got to do a speech. My picture is on all of the walk literature and I also get to start the walk. Please donate some money to my team! Thanks! Sam

The walk is Sunday, June 6th at 4pm at Ann Morrison Park in Downtown Boise.
