I think Halloween can be so fun and I always want to decorate and do something fun with the house.  I put together a fun little table-scape (as seen in the picture) this year and here are my tips to you for decorating on a budget for Halloween. Be creative and keep an open mind.  You don’t have to spend a lot to have fun with the holidays.

1. Make your food work for you.  Before your pumpkin gets turned into a pie you can use it as decoration.  This is kind of typical with pumpkins, but you don’t have to stop there.  The candy corn and M&Ms are potty training treats, but I thought they looked festive on display in a fun glass jar.  Cranberries, nuts, or other candies could all be used to decorate for Halloween (all the way to Thanksgiving)

2. Use what you have (unless you can find what you want at the right price).  I was using old glass jars here from jam or spaghetti sauce that I washed and saved until I found these three glass containers at a garage sale last week end for 10 cents each.  Dollar stores usually have fun glass containers you could fill with fun seasonal things too.  You can incorporate nature here too (for free)  with leaves, acorns or even sticks.  Last year I brought in a couple of branches to decorate around mt pumpkin.

3. Be patient and keep using your coupons.  I got the bouncy ball eyes for free at CVS with a coupon as well as the Boo to you sign.  The next week I got a coupon in the mail for a free bag of M&Ms, and a coupon from CVS for free candy corn.  It didn’t all come together at once, but because I was patient I was able to save some money.

4.  Make it fun.  I’m hoping to do some craft projects to continue decorating my house (We’re having a Halloween party here this year! )  I’m planning on making a bat border out of paper I got cheap with coupons and do some other little things.  I not only doing it because it’s an inexpensive way to decorate, but because it’s fun!  If you are having fun then you are probably on the right track. 🙂

Have a safe and thrifty Halloween,
