Thrifty Hand Made Christmas name blocks.
If you’re a crafter, you probably already have alot of the supplies needed:
– 2×4 from home improvement store (Usually less than $2 for 8ft at home depot or Lowes)
– sand paper
-Strips of coordinating scrapbook paper – make sure the design is not too busy (thrifty tip – its possible to use pieces of wrapping paper, but they’re a little harder to work with)
-Modge Podge ($8 or less) – with a 40% off Q at Michaels, it’ll be less (you’ll have PLENTY for MANY MANY blocks)
– Black Spray Paint (.99) if you have glossy Modge Podge, get glossy. if you have matte, get matte.
– Black Felt (.39)
– old black stamp pad ($1 if you don’t have one)
Start out with a plain ole 2×4
Cut into 4″, 5″ & 6″ Blocks (or have a handman hubby do it for ya)
Sand the edges down
Spray Paint the blocks black (let dry and do a touch up)
Cut strips of leftover scrapbook paper slightly smaller than the front of the block. Use an old stamp pad to slightly “dye” the edges black
Use Modge Podge (or any decopauge medium) to affix the scrapbook paper to the block
Cut letters out of black cardstock, and affix using modge podge (that stuff is my favorite!!)
Go ahead and cover the entire front of the block.
Cut felt slightly smaller than the bottom of the blocks, and attach with hot glue gun (so that the wood blocks won’t scratch up srfaces)
These presents have been a hit with many of my family. I have gotten so many compliments, and I love seeing them in my peoples homes. – I made 9 different family presents for under $20!! Now THAT’S thrifty.
