Cell phone numbers are being released to telemarketing companies and many of you already receive sale calls.
…. YOU ARE BEING CHARGED FOR THESE CALLS
To prevent this, call the following number from your cell phone: 888-382-1222.
It is the National DO NOT CALL list. It will only take a minute of your time. You must call from the cell phone number you want to have blocked. You cannot call from a different phone number.
HELP OTHERS BY PASSING THIS ON TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS.. It takes about 20 seconds.
(all you do is type 1 for english, then it will ask you to type in your cell phone number you are calling from)
UPDATE – Many of you have comment on Snopes….. If you read my post and theirs you find a couple things -
I never stated you “must” like the rumor originally said, and since many of us change carriers and phone numbers every few years it is always good to re-do this. And just like car salesman, telemarketers really don’t obey the rules. I have had many interrupted conversations with friends over a telemarketer calling a cell phone.
Those directories collected by the cell carriers are compiled for the operators.. who is to say that person wont sell the list?
So to summarize – this is not a must, this is the federal gov. doing this, plus the rule is for automated computer telemarketers that automatically call you. I worked as a telemarketer back when i was a kid and I hand dialed. Hand dialing is not apart of the law….
And since many people actually use a cell phone as their main number, as you purchase something at the store and at the check out the cashier ask for your telephone number( happened to us today), many of us give our cell to them. That is then used by the store and quite possibly sold.
And as we text companies to receive deals those numbers are being stored in directories and sold….
On their site – in the last paragraph, Snopes says that cell phone users can place their number on the call list. and that it will provide some security.

You dont have to block cell phones.

“Cell Phones
You may place your personal cell phone number on the National Do Not Call Registry. The registry has accepted cell phone numbers since it opened for registrations in June 2003. There is no deadline to register a home or cell phone number on the Registry.
You may have received an email telling you that your cell phone is about to be assaulted by telemarketing calls as a result of a new cell phone number database; however, that is not the case. Federal Communications Commission regulations prohibit telemarketers from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers”.
This is from the Do Not Call Website
Your registration will not expire.
Telephone numbers placed on the National Do Not Call Registry will remain on it permanently due to the Do-Not-Call Improvement Act of 2007, which became law in February 2008. Read more about it at http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2008/04/dncfyi.shtm.

According to snopes it isn’t necessary to do this… here’s the link…

Looks like it is still illegal for automated systems to call…
but most telemarketers work around this,
And FYI Snopes is just word of mouth info. Last email I got was that Bill gates was giving a computer to who ever emailed him… REALLY? It was on snopes too, they said it was real… I never got one
You can also do it online at donotcall.gov
There is no need to do this since our cell numbers will not be released to anyone. Please check at snopes.com for the whole story.
Thank you so much for passting this info on! I did post it on my blog to share with my readers. Thanks again!!
