My Family

If you do not already follow us on Instagram we would love to have you, and share in the Moments We Want To Remember each week!Grandma Callahans vintage dressI went to a Halloween party yesterday in my Grandma Callahan’s vintage clothes. She passed away two years ago, I miss her dearly. She had lots of cute clothes from her younger years which some of my cousins inherited. This double knit outfit was in a pile that no one wanted, my Mom thought maybe she would turn some of her old clothes into a quilt instead of donating them to DI. I was pregnant and it didn’t fit and I even thought it was a tad ugly… Yet it was a piece of my Grandma’s history… Her story. So I took it home with me.
I had bought this hat and another dress at a vintage sale and planned to wear it today.. But out of the blue remembered my Grandma’s dress so I tried it on… IT FIT. I got all emotional, so strange to be wearing her clothes. I wonder what she did or saw in this dress? Wish I could ask her.
So today I went dressed as my cute hip Grandma… I am so glad I saved this dress. I’m rather fond of it now… Heck I might even wear it to church. Love you Grandma thanks for being such a huge part of my life!

Funnel cake Recipe, Fair Food so easy to makeWe went to the fair last week, my husband bought a funnel cake to show Johann our boy from France how good they are.  We enjoyed it but I told the kids next time we need to make them at home for a fraction of the price.  Here is the recipe I posted a few years ago on how to make Funnel Cakes. Hope you enjoy it 🙂

****************************

So I am 30+ years old and never had a Funnel cake, yes I have seen them at the fair, and heard everyone rant and rave about how good they are……but I have never been willing to pay the inflated $5 fee they charge for carnival food.

Matt’s parents have been making them at home since the 70’s, back in Rhode Island.  They wanted to make them for the Grandkids this weekend.  It was rather fun….cost pennies to make and the kids and I LOVED it.

Funnel Cakes

  • 1 egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 TBS Sugar
  • 1 1/3 cups Sifted Flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 TBS baking powder

Beat egg, add milk, sift salt, sugar, flour and Baking powder together. Add eggs and milk. Beat until smooth. Pour batter into funnel. Funnel into oil that is 350 degrees (recipe makes 3 large funnel cakes)

You want to overlap the batter to create a “cake” that will form a solid shape that you can flip, to brown the other side.

Once both sides are golden brown, drain on paper towels  and top with powdered sugar.

Thanks Granny and Papa these were great!

You can also use the same batter and dip these rosettes in it and then place them in the oil. With a little shake the batter comes off the rosette and you can finish frying them.

kids start schoolIf you follow me on Instagram you know that 4 of my 5  kids started school this week.  My adorable 5 year old started kindergarten. As I dropped him off to school we was a little worried about leaving Mom, but was brave and left my side.  I was eager for him to come home so I could see how his day went. I met him at the bus stop and as he bounced off the bus he told me all about his day. It was too cute not to share.

First day of school 2015, free printable back to school signsSummer sure was fun, we played hard, stayed up later than we should have.  It always seems to go way to fast…. yet at the same time it goes in slow motion when the kids are fighting or saying “I’m Bored”. But I sure do love having them home.  It is always hard for me to send them back to school and every year I think maybe I should home school them…. then I remember that I am really good at lots of things, but structure and teaching is NOT my #1 talent and we go back to public school.

I love the excitement and enthusiasm they have for the first day of school. They all pop right out of bed get dressed and bounce down the stairs for breakfast. We will see how long that attitude will last.

First day of school 2015, free printable back to school signsWe took our traditional BACK TO SCHOOL first day of school photo.  It is amazing how much they change in a year. You can get the FREE PRINTABLE Back To School Signs here.

Now it is just me and my baby at home, she keeps wandering around the house looking for everyone.
