Yesterday was Mckeelys birthday and she wanted me to make her a green Jello cake.  My sister in law made Jello Cake for the first time a few years ago, and it has now become one of my kids favorites. Start off by baking a normal cake, we normally use a white cake.  Bake it and let it cool.  Then once it has cooled, take a wooden spoon and with the handle poke holes in the cake. The kids love this part!

You then need to make Jello.  I use 2 small boxes, which would normally make 4 cups of  Jello….but I leave one cup of water out.  So it only makes 3 cups of  Jello ( makes it a little more firm)  You need to pour the 3 cups of liquid Jello over the top of the cake…. Pouring it into the holes.

You then need to cover and place in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.

Once you are ready to eat, top with coolwhip…..Keep left over cake in refrigerator.  Maleeya was happy to lick the bowl clean!

I make this cake the same way too, then I top it with a mix of Dream Whip and lemon pudding. Delish!

I'm definitely making one of these today. I bought a box of yellow cake mix while I was out hitting up the Post cereal deal, and was SURE there was no way I was out of Jello. I got home and realized I only had one, lone box stuffed in the back of the cupboard. Luckily, it's a big box, so it's the same size as 2 little boxes. I like the idea someone mentioned of mixing Cool Whip and pudding for the frosting. So, my cake is going to have strawberry Jello and a Cool Whip/banana pudding topping.

we make jello cake a lot too, it is even yummier with a layer of vanilla pudding between the cake and cool whip. Happy birthday, McKeely!

My mom used to make this when I was a kid but I haven't ever made it. I had forgotten about it. TFS! I can't wait to make it for my kids.

I like to use the 8in cake pans and make this a double layer...We use a lime for one and a cherry for the other and then after they have cooled we dip thebottom of the pan in HOT water for 20 secs so it melts that jello on the bottom and the cake comes out nice and easy. SUPER yummy andmakes for a very pretty cake...we can use it for any holiday...we use cherry and blue razberry for 4th of july and top it with blue and red sprinkles. mmmmmm!

My grandma used to make us a cake like this all the time except she called it big red cake because she would use big red mixed with strawberry jello. Also she would mix vanilla pudding with the cool whip for the topping. Yummy!!!

Greetings from Charlotte, NC. This cake is very similar to a recipe once given out by Weight Watchers. I have had it and yes, it is VERY good. I just never thought to put Cool Whip on it. Thanks, good idea.

That is a great way to use up cake mixes and jello. I need more jello recipes. Do you have more?? I see you buy some at Walgreens sometimes as filler items. I have some I need to use up!

This is my favorite. I have a summer birthday and would always request Jello Cake because it seemed cool and light to me. We'd also make them for 4th of July by layering a round cake with red and blue.
