Easter Egg Craft ~ Great Kids Craft

Looking for a quick craft that the kids can do when they are stuck inside on a rainy spring day?  Maybe you have a lot of paper scraps laying around that you are looking for a creative way to use up.  This is perfect for both of those!

You will need

2 copies of an egg print out (find a coloring sheet of an egg and that will work perfect.  Its ok if it isn’t plain, you will be cutting one out and gluing over the other one anyway)

patterned paper scraps

scissors

glue

Begin by cutting your scraps of paper into thin strips.  They don’t have to be straight or even the same size.  If you don’t have any scraps of paper around, you should be able to find some cheap paper even at the dollar store.

Now, take one of your egg printouts and cut it out.  DO NOT CUT THE OUTSIDE OF THE PAPER.  Only cut the egg out of the middle.  Leaving a sort of egg shaped frame.  Lay that one aside, you are done with it for now.

Now take your scraps and glue them to the top of the other coloring sheet that you didn’t cut out.  It doesn’t have to be perfect, they can even overlap.

Doesn’t look like much at this point, but it will!  Once you are done gluing the strips down, take your egg frame you made and glue it on top.

There you have it!  A great craft that is perfect for Easter or for a rainy day!  Doesn’t it look lovely?

Interchangable Rainbow Wreath ~ Spring and St Patrick's Day, #Spring, #Wreath, #DIY, #Rainbow what a fun idea love thisInterchangeable Rainbow Wreath ~ Spring and St Patrick’s Day

This fun wreath is easy to make and a fun change from a normal wreath.  The best part, with some string, bakers twine or fishing line, you can add a cute shape in the middle and use it through spring when St Patrick’s day is over!

You will need:

Felt in rainbow colors.  I used one piece of each color

Wreath form (Get a wicker one from the dollar store to save some money)

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

A spice container, or something to use as a template for cutting circles that are around 2 inches in diameter

Fabric scissors

pen

interchangable rainbow wreath, #spring,#stpatricksday, #stpatricksdaycrafts, #stpatricksdaywreath, #rainbow, #rainbowwreath, #springwreath, #clover, #felt, #thriftycrafts, #easycrafts,

You will want to start by tracing circles.  If you use anything bigger than a couple of inches, you will need more flannel.  Once you have your circles traced you are going to cut them out with some fabric scissors.  This isn’t hard, but a little time consuming.  Do yourself a favor and do it while you watch television or something to entertain yourself.  Really, you will never want to see another circle in your life. 😉

Once you have all of your circles cut, you are going to glue them on to your wreath form.  This also takes forever but the ruffles look so pretty that it is worth it! Begin with red or purple, since those are your end colors and work your way to the other end.  Put a small dot of hot glue in the middle of the felt circle and pinch it together.  This will help keep it from just falling into a flat circle.

Once you have glued the circle in the middle, put a dot on your wreath form and place the circle on.  Pinch it for a few seconds so that it will stay attached.  Continue to do this for each circle.  Place them close together to prevent gaps.  They should cover fairly well.

Once I did my colors, I still had a good size gap left of wreath showing.  I covered it in strips of light blue felt for the sky.  I wanted my clouds to be different from the rainbow, so they wouldn’t look like part of the rainbow.  I cut  them flat, to look like clouds, and just cut 3 different sizes to give it more depth.

Now, for the shape in the middle.  Using card stock or thick paper, cut your desired shape.  I went with a shamrock out of some sparkly green scrapbook paper I had.  If you want to make it thicker, do two of the same shape and glue them together so that it is double sided. Punch a small hole in the top and hang using string, bakers twine or fishing line.  If you are using a wicker wreath, tie the other end of the string around the pieces of wicker in the back.  Or just hot glue it where you want it.  I also made raindrops that I plan on hanging after St Patrick’s day is over so that I can keep my fun, bright wreath up through spring!

Carrot Garland ~ Easy, DIY, Spring Craft

Why would you want to make a garland of carrots for spring, you may ask?  Well, for one, brownie points with the Easter Bunny, right?! Not to mention, that it is fun, bright, happy and just “springy”!

You will need

1 sheet of orange printer paper

1 sheet of green printer paper

stapler

hot glue

hot glue gun

hole punch

ribbon, twine or yarn to string garland

paper trimmer or scissors

Begin by cutting your orange paper into 1 inch strips lengthwise.  And your green into 1/2 inch strips on the shorter width of the paper.  Now take your orange strip and staple it together on the bottom.

Now take your green strip and fan fold it. Large folds, you should make the folds big enough that you get about 3-4 “leaves” out of it.  Staple it together on the bottom as well.  Now put a dot of hot glue on the top of the carrot and gently press the green onto the orange.  Now fan them out a little bit so they aren’t so flat.

Almost done!  Use your hole punch and push a hole through both sides at the same time, then you are sure they are in the same spot.  This is just a matter of personal taste on how high up you punch your hole.  String a piece of ribbon, twine or yarn through the carrots so they are all connected.

That is it!  It isn’t the normal, pastel Easter decor and I think that is why I love it so much!  It is unusual and fun!

Paper Flowers With Straw Stems ~ Great Kid Craft

These cute, paper straws are a perfect rainy day craft to do with the kids!  Give them to Grandma for Mother’s day, or leave them on someone’s porch for May day.  No need to worry about them dying, and they can be admired all year long!

You will need:

Patterned or colored paper (great way to use up scraps!) Or order these, great size and spring prints that are so cute!

Green flexible straws

glue

scissors

hole punch

I tried to freehand my flowers, but I just wasn’t talented enough!  They looked more like sad clouds.  I got a flower template off the internet by searching for “flower clip art black and white outline”.  I printed it out and used that to trace on the back of my papers to make a nicer shape.  I also made sure I had a different patterned paper circle for the center of each one.

Once your flowers are traced and cut, punch a hole in the center of the center circle before gluing them together (your flower shape will be too big to get the hole punch in the center).  I then used my scissors to poke through the flower shape once the two layers were glued together.

Slide your straw through, and rest the flower on the flexible grooves.  Then, trim the top portion of the straw (the part you would drink out of) off just before the flexible bends.  Add to a nice vase and there you go!  Cute decorations that are so much easier to keep then live flowers!
