I love homemade pizza! How about you? One night, like most nights, I was in a hurry to get dinner on the table and feed my belly aching, hungry five. I reached for a recipe that I adapted and had played around with quite a bit a while back from allrecipes. This is now one of my “Go To” recipes when I’m in a pinch for time and have five little monkeys screaming, “We’re hungry!” The results were unanimous, thumbs up all around.

*This recipe was tested using a regular round pizza pan and a pizza stone. I highly recommend using a pizza stone with this recipe. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 3 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (110 degrees F.)
  • 1 cup unbleached all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unbleached whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil + more to coat bowl

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the yeast and warm water. Let stand until creamy, about five minutes.
  3. Grease a large bowl with olive oil. (Not the 2 tablespoons) Set aside.
  4. In a standing mixer with dough hook attached, combine flours, salt, sugar, olive oil and yeast mixture. Beat until smooth and dough is formed. Transfer dough to greased bowl. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and a clean kitchen towel. Let rise in a warm place for 30 minutes.
  5. While dough is rising, place pizza stone in the oven to heat it.
  6. Shape dough and place on HOT pizza stone.
  7. Top crust with favorite pizza sauce and toppings.
  8. Bake pizza in preheated 400 degree F. oven for 10-15 minutes or until sides of crust are golden brown.
