7 Days of Valentines ~ 7 simple ways to make this year extra special

Love is in the air, and it has arrived at A Thrifty Mom Site!  Are you ready for 7 days of lovin’?  Alison, our Falling in Love with your Family contributor, is sharing 7 days of romance, skill-building, and fun to get you ready for Valentine’s Day and give your marriage a boost.  You can work on the challenges together, or you can try it out without letting your spouse know it’s anything but a burst of love from you.  If you accept the 7-day challenge and leave a comment about how it went on the last day (February 15), you’ll be entered into a drawing for a $25 movie card.  Are you ready for 7 Days of Valentines?

 Day 1: Pucker up, Buttercup!

The challenge for today is to kiss your spouse.  Not some little “Hello Grandma” kiss, but the real deal.  If you have been a little on the buddy-buddy side lately or have rifts between you, this task may feel awkward, but there are plenty of good reasons to lock lips. Kissing increases the levels of the calming chemical oxytocin in your body and sends in a dose of dopamine, which helps with romantic attachment.  Kissing is also good for your health, may lower cholesterol, and even burns calories.  Well, okay, it only burns about 6 calories a minute, but that’s just another reason to not rush it!

Try for at least a 10-second kiss.  It can occur as you wake up, when you part for the day, or at some unexpected time (anyone for putting off doing the dishes???).  Kissing is one of the best ways to stay connected and close as a couple.  It melts away tension and strengthens your commitment to each other.  It says, “Life is busy, but I will always have time for you.”  And it is free.  (P.S. That’s a whole lot cheaper than therapy.)

So make your plan of attack, give the one you love a good, long, romantic kiss, and then smile… you’ve just completed Day 1 of the 7 Days of Valentines!

i dont have a human to kiss, but i kiss my 3 4 legged girls several times a day…

  2. Thank you for the wonderful ideas!  We have been married almost 15 years and we’ve been in a bit of a rut lately….it was nice to have some tips to  help us a bit!

  3. This was my favorite! I used the line that we had to kiss for a minute, to burn 6 calories. My husband said that we had better kiss longer to make it worth something!!! What a good excuse!
