Bag of Rice Project #130 -A visit to the Emeka family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Emeka family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Donna Tompkins, Kaylan Smith and Bernadette Darnell this is the 130th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village outside Aba, Nigeria. They were referred to us by their church leader. Mrs Emeka is a widow and she has 3 children. They live in a rented one bedroom apartment and they share the utilities with the their neighbors.

The Emekas lost their breadwinner not long ago and only finished burying him before we visited. They cook with firewood on the floor just outside their house. Mrs Emeka sells fruits at a local market in the village and this is the main source of income for this wonderful family. They have been struggling to feed lately and was suggested to us by their church leader who saw that they needed the help.

Dealing with the loss of their breadwinner has really hurt this family and that made Mrs Emeka very happy to see us. She told us that this rice will go a long way to helping them. I know that this family is grateful for this bag of Rice and thoroughly deserve this help. I am so happy that we left them better thsn we met them.
