Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Clifford family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Joanne Moore this is the 131st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
We met this wonderful family in a village on the outskirts of Aba, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief who we met when we arrived in the village. The Clifford family was the first family we met in this community. They have 3 kids who were not around when went to visit them and they live with their grandson in a rented one bedroom house. They were quite surprised when we visited them but they welcomed us very well.

We met Mrs Clifford working on a local meal in her kitchen. She was making a local meal called Akamu and she will keep some for her family and then sell the rest. She cooks with firewood, which is the cheapest fuel around but will end up making your pots black with soot. The Cliffords are farmers and they have a small farm where they plant Cassava and Corn which they harvest and sell to take care of their family.

The Cliffords were not expecting us at all and reacted with surprise when we brought the bag of Rice to them and told them that it was theirs. They are a humble family that has been toiling and struggling to survive. It was our pleasure to see smiles lit up their faces and they were very happy and grateful for this special gift which will fed their family and keep them less worried in this economic lock down.
