Bag of Rice Project #134 -A visit to the Joseph family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Joseph family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Joanne Barrand this is the 134th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this large wonderful family in a village called Mboko in Aba, Nigeria. They were referred to us by their church leader. Mrs Joseph the Matriarch of the family is a widow and she has 6 kids. They all live in a three bedroom mud house that they built. We had a lot of fun visiting this family as they were not expecting us but still answered all our questions and made us laugh a lot.

The Joseph family cooks from a clay hut. Which serves as their kitchen, they cook using firewood which is the cheapest form of fuel over here but which makes the pots dark with soot. Mrs Joseph is a farmer and all her kids help her to farm as well. They sell what they farm and then eat the rest.

Mrs Joseph was so happy when we told her why we came to visit them and what we brought for them. She was singing and praising God and was just laughing with joy all through out our visit. She said that our visit was an answer to her prayers and also prayed that God should bless those who made this donation. This family really needs this bag of Rice as the current Coronavirus lockdown has made it hard for them to go to the city to sell their crops. We really enjoyed visiting with this family and loved that they were really happy with their bag of Rice and appreciated it.
