Bag of Rice Project #136 -A visit to the Happiness family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Happiness family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Alison Van House, Becky Wetzel, Amy Waddell and Barb Przybylski this is the 136th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in a village outside Aba, Nigeria. They were introduced to us by their village chief. This village was very far from the city and it took us a long drive to locate it and several turns and off road paths to find this family and other ones we met in this village. Mrs Happiness is a widow and she has 5 children. We did not meet all her children as some of them were away in the city. They live in a mud house that has other utilities like kitchen and bathroom in a separate structure outside the house

Mrs Happiness cooks with firewood on the ground, it is usually customary for people here to have a mud structure for cooking but this family did not. Mrs Happiness is a farmer and her children help her in farming too. This family was very nice for us to meet, they welcomed us well. They were not expecting us and were pleasantly surprised by our visit.

We met Mrs Happiness in the farm and her and her sons were surprised when they met us. They were grateful for the gift and Mrs Happiness was especially thankful to those who donated to them and prayed that their lives will be rewarded. This family needed this bag of Rice and I heard from the local chief that they have been struggling since the breadwinner of the house died. I was happy seeing the look of happiness on Mrs Happiness’s face and we left this family better than how we met them.
