Bag of Rice Project #14 -A visit to Mr Eke Elendu

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive.

The Following story is about the Eke Elendu, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Helen Root this is the 14th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

Mr Eke Elendu is a Nigerian civil war veteran. He hurt his leg during the war and walks with a very noticeable limp. He is a widower he lost his wife two years ago and he is still adjusting to her absence, he stays alone. He lives in a one bedroom apartment and we met him cooking his dinner. He finds it difficult to walk around and that makes him reliant on people to do things that require a lot of walking for him.

Mr Eke was a delightful person to talk to and told us war stories all the time we was there. Listening to him talk i could understand that were it not for his disability he would have been very self sufficient but his handicap has limited him in a few ways. We gave him the bag of rice and he was very grateful and was offered us dinner in appreciation. We loved his spirit and we left very pleased that he will find life a little easier because of the Rice we gave him.
