Bag of Rice Project #15 -A visit to the Steven family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Steven family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Helen Root this is the 15th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

This family is the biggest family we have visited so far, they are a lovely family with 7 kids and the live in the eastern part of Nigeria. We called someone who took us to the house and we met the family. They live in a rented two bedroom house with all their kids and cook their meals in front of the house.

The Steven house

The father of the house Mr Steven is a bus driver but his bus broke down and while under repair some parts were stolen and since then he is unemployed and without a bus to drive and make a living from. His wife Mrs Ifeoma is a trader and she sells pepper in small quantities to help feed the family and support the family. When we reached the family we couldn’t meet everybody but the ones we did really appreciate our visit and the bag of rice we brought. Mr Steven shared a story of them worrying about food and how they will feed their family and then how there church leader called them to ask for directions to their home and they were filled with anticipation and when he saw us coming that we looked like angels to him and are angels to his family. We felt really humbled by his story and pray that we will be guided to picking the right families and at the right time.
