. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing
Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. You can also read about other families we have been able to bless here.

The Following story is about the Etim family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Gina Sorenson Family this is the 338th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this family in a village called Uruan outside Uyo, Nigeria. They were recommended to us by their neighbors when they saw us in the area. The Etims live in a rather trenched cemented bungalow without basic amenities like water and light. They didn’t really seem like they were happy at the moment but they received us with open arms and their 4 kids were most excited to welcome us. Mr Emmanuel Ime Etim is a widower, his wife died a long time ago and he is left with 4 mouths to feed. Mr Etim is a Carpenter and that he said that’s one of the most common ways to survive in the area. Although it didn’t pay much but him and his family could manage what he makes on most days.

This family don’t really have a kitchen. They cooked with their kerosene stove by the corridors of the house. Due to the absence of their mother, the two female children took the responsibility of preparing meals. While the boys helped in fetching water, doing some other chores and helping the father in his workshop.

It’s surprising to see how this family grow in strength and bravery. They faced all their struggles and tried to manage and support each other in their conditions. Even the first male child was engaged in a serious fire accident that burnt the surface of his skin and had caused lots of damages on his physical appearance but still made it out of that fire accident alive we are grateful to God. This family are real survivors. They were surprised with our gift and were really thankful for it, they also appreciated those who donated it for them. It was nice to see smiles come across this families face as they know what this bag of rice will do for the, and the relief it will bring.
