Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Okon family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to SHIRLEY TAYLOR this is the 420th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.
Mr Okon is a mason and we met him while he was still working in a house opposite where we were and insisted that we should visit his house too. He was so nice that we decided to follow him to his house too. He lives in a one bedroom house and has 2 kids. They were so happy to meet us and his wife was even surprised at how happy the husband was and also how early he returned from work.
The Okons cook in a small zinc structure behind their house and use a little gas stove. Mr Okon is a mason and he left work just to take us to his home as this was an opportunity he could not neglect. His wife is learning to be a tailor and works in a little shop just by their house. The Okons were very happy to meet us and were very welcoming to us.
This Rice project has touched a lot of lives and many families have kept in touch and still send thankful messages long after we have visited them. Mr Okon left his job early just so that he can receive a bag of Rice which costs more than he can be able to make in a month or two and will be of tremendous benefit to his family. He was so grateful to those who donated to his family and was very happy to have received such a an unexpected gift.
