Bag of Rice Project #441 -A visit to the Johnson family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Johnson family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to TERRY SIMMONS this is the 441st bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met Mr. Johnson family in Uyo, Nigeria. Mr. Johnson is a bricklayer and we saw their house while we were meeting their other neighbor. They were excited when we met them, the Johnsons have 4 kids and they live in a mud house, which is in a bad condition. The thatched roof leaks whenever rain falls. They didn’t believe someone can give out a bag of rice without having an ulterior motive, they felt it was sponsored by the politician against the next general election in Nigeria.

The Johnson cooks with firewood which is the cheapest fuel they can afford. They created a space for this in the mud house they are living. The kitchen lacks the basic facilities a kitchen should be equipped with. Mr. Johnson works as a bricklayer to feed the family and meet their needs, the wife Mrs. Blessing Johnson is unemployed, she wants to sell in the market but lack the fund for a startup.

The Johnson family were happy and confessed that they haven’t seen such a thing before, giving a bag of rice without having an political or personal motive. They appreciated and prayed for the donors for putting a smile on their face in this tough time and expressed their sincere thanks for this gift.
