Bag of Rice Project #447 -A visit to the Monday family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Monday family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to HELEN ROOT this is the 447 bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met the Monday Family in Afaha village which is domiciled in Ibesikpo Asutan local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. When we met the family it was raining heavily. The Monday Family live in a one bedroom apartment and the house is not yet plastered. Mr Monday has 5 kids. They were happy when we told them what we brought for them.

The Monday Family cooks in a kitchen they constructed themselves with a wood and zinc that serves as shelter when rain is falling. The family cooks with firewood which is the cheapest method of cooking because they are unable to afford cooking gas. Mr Iniefiok Monday is a mason. He does this to provide for the family. The wife is unemployed and has interest in selling fish in the market but there is no capital to start.

The Mondays were happy as the countenance of the family changed. They were in a happy mood. They prayed for the donor for giving them a bag of rice in these difficult times and all they did was pray for the donor and commanded God’s blessing on them and God should bless the work of their hand for gifting them a bag of rice. We had to wait so that the rain could stop and they continued praying until we left. The family was filled with joy.
