Bag of Rice Project #448 -A visit to the Bob family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Bob family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to Dakota Wells this is the 448th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

The Bob Family house was not far from the Udohs family. We met the Bob family in Afaha village in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government area, Akwa Ibom state, Nigeria. The Bob family lives in a one bedroom apartment and they have 3 kids. They were a bit skeptical when we met them and didn’t believe a full bag of rice could be given to them for free, because the price of a bag of rice is more than the salary some people earn in the country.

The Bob family cooks at the back of their house, and they made use of firewood which is the cheapest means of cooking now in Nigeria, considering the price of gas in the country. They do not have a space for a kitchen inside their house and use an open space behind the house to cook. And when it rains, like it did today, they’d have to forgo cooking until it dries. Mr Bob deals in the selling of farm produce and the wife sells fish in the market, they engage in this so as to be able to meet family basic needs and provide for the family.

The Bob family were happy to see us and they were happy when we gave them the bag of rice. They confessed that the children were about to get food on credit, and they were shocked when we brought a bag of rice for them as the economy of the country is bad. The family initially thought it was from a politician because that is what they trade to get people’s vote. They thanked the donor for blessing them in this period and prayed that God would replenish their pockets. They were in a happy state when we left them because they had what to eat.
