Bag of Rice Project #460 -A visit to the Ekereobong family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The Following story is about the Ekereobong family, their bag of rice was donated thanks to SHIRLEY TAYLOR this is the 460th bag of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

We met this wonderful family in Uyo Local Government Area, they reside in Nkemba street. They live in a one-bedroom apartment. They have 3 kids. We met Mrs. Ime Ekereobong outside her shop lamenting about how the floods had destroyed some of her goods. She only has a few things to sell in hopes to feed her family and provide for her family. The flood waters are an unforgiving thief, that take from those who have so little.

The Ekereobong family created a space at the back of their house to cook, they lamented about how the rain has destroyed their kitchen whenever there is a heavy downpour. They make use of firewood for cooking because that is the cheapest they can afford considering the price of a gas cooker. When we visited the husband was not around but we were told he is unemployed, the wife has a small grocery shop, items places on old wooden stands on the side of the road. The family feeds from the proceeds made from this.

They were excited when we told them we had a bag of rice for them. They told us they are ready to vote for our party in the coming election. We told them we are not affiliated to any political party and they were shocked someone donated a bag of rice to them which is higher than the minimum wage in Nigeria. They thanked and prayed for the donor and said God will continually bless them.
