Bag of Rice Project #466 -A visit to the Emmanuel family

Learn how you can be apart of helping people who are in need with our A Thrifty Mom Bag of Rice Campaign. In 2016 we started helping a young man named Ikechukwu from Nigeria. Summer of 2019 we were able to visit his family in Aba, Nigeria. While there we saw widespread poverty and lack of basic needs. We would like to invite you to help meet one of those basic needs, by providing Nigerian families with rice. This gift will feed a large family for a few months, or a single person a year. It also reminds them they are loved, and brings most of them to tears… as a full bag of rice is one of the most generous gifts they will ever receive. The following story is about the Emmanuel family. Their bag of rice was donated thanks to Croff Family, and this is the 466th of rice our program has been able to give away thanks to generous donations.

The Emmanuel family resides in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State. So Mr. Emmanuel is our ever dependable driver and has helped us on our deliveries, especially when we have to go long distances. It’s so nice to be able to help someone, who has helped us help others and always doing it with a smile. The Emmanuel family lives in a one room apartment with other neighbors. They were very happy to see us, as they knew exactly what we were bringing for them. They have one kid. When we told them what we brought for them, they were excited to their bones because a bag of rice at this moment is more than the monthly minimum wage in Nigeria.

The Emmanuel do not have a luxury space so they set aside a little space which served as their kitchen which they kept clean and organized. The family makes use of a little gas stove. Mr Emmanuel is a bus driver, due to the high price in getting fuel in Nigeria, he is making little profit to cater for the family. Mrs Idongesit Emmanuel is unemployed and has picked interest in learning tailoring but due to how the husbands business is she has not been able to pay for learning it.

The Emmanuel family were happy to see us, we had promised Mr Emmanuel many times that we would come visit them and they rejoiced when they saw us. They thanked the donors for making it possible for them to get a bag of rice this festive period and prayed GOD will bless them in all they do. The family were very happy and they were full of thanks until we left.
